GP Health Service

It is important that GPs receive the support they require to remain fit and mentally healthy to cope with the demands of the job. This is recognised both locally and nationally; a healthy workforce is vital in order to provide safe and quality care for patients.

General Advice

HealthHero (previously Validium)

North East Regional LMC have commissioned HealthHero as an employee assistance programme for all GPs and practice managers within general practice in our area. CLMC have taken this a step further and have commissioned a top up service for 20/21 so this HealthHero EAP support is extended to ALL working within general practice within Tees as we appreciate just how much every person within the GP team is coping with during Covid.

The service commenced on 1 April 2020 and you can contact the counselling helpline on 0800 970 90 40.

Local Support

ICS Wellbeing Hub – North East and North Cumbria Staff Support and Wellbeing Hub. The Hub team will ensure that all health and care staff who need support can quickly and confidentially access the best advice and treatment.

National GP Health Service

It is important that GPs receive the support they require to remain fit and mentally healthy to cope with the demands of the job. This is recognised both locally and nationally; a healthy workforce is vital in order to provide safe and quality care for patients.

The NHS GP Health Service is a confidential NHS service for GPs and GP trainees in England.

The GP Health Service can help with issues relating to a mental health concern, including stress or depression, or an addiction problem, in particular where these might affect work.

The service is self-referral. It is provided by health professionals specialising in mental health support to doctors and is available in various locations across England.

Access the service by emailing us on gp.health@nhs.net or by calling 0300 0303 300. The service is available 8am – 8pm Monday – Friday and 8am – 2pm Saturday.

Please note the service is not for emergency or crisis issues. These should be directed to mainstream NHS.

Ironopolis Medical Group

RMBF

This is very helpful guide for all GPs seeking help and advice. The guide sets out the stress and pressure points for GPs and GP Trainees, seeks to provide practical advice and signposts support and resources for those experiencing stress and difficulties.

BMA Wellbeing Support services (Counselling and Peer Support)

For help, counselling and personal support from a trained telephone counsellor or peer support from a doctor-adviser. Available 24hrs a day, 7 days a week.

BMA Doctor Support Service

Help from fellow doctors for doctors facing the ordeal of GMC fitness to practice processes. Not confined to BMA members

Doctors’ Support Network (DSN)

Self-help group for doctors with mental illness. A DoH funded helpline for doctors. Peer support from volunteer doctors trained to offer friendly and informal support to fellow doctors who are experiencing burnout, anxiety, depression, mental distress, work difficulties, family worries or other problems that they need to talk through. The service is completely confidential, anonymous and independent. The aim is for callers to be reassured and helped to work out solutions and methods of coping with whatever is troubling them.

The British Doctors’ and Dentists’ Group

The British Doctors’ and Dentists’ Group, formed in 1973, is a mutual support society for doctors and dentists who are recovering, or wish to recover, from addiction/dependency on alcohol or other drugs.

Claire Wand Organisation

The Clare Wand Organisation is a charitable fund that makes grants to fund the further education of medical practitioners, predominantly engaged in general practice, and for the provision of scholarships (including travelling scholarships).

The Dain Fund

The Fund helps with the education and support of doctors’ children when there are financial problems in the family. In most of the families helped the parents are out of work or on a very low income.
